The owl arrived early in the morning. Hermione didn't recognize it, so she performed the necessary charms to make sure the parchment was safe before she read it. Then she read it again.

Lee Jordan wanted to work with books? She remembered him, of course. He was always around Fred and George, so it would have been difficult not to know him. He just hadn't ever struck her as the type to be interested in books or printing. She knew she'd rarely ever seen him in the library. Perhaps he'd changed over the years. Or perhaps he was desperate for a job. Either was possible.

She hadn't really given a lot of thought to hiring anyone until the bookstore was actually open. Now that someone had inquired, though, and brought up manual labor, she realized it might be wise to hire someone to do most of the work converting the house she'd found (and still needed to thoroughly explore) into a store. She hoped to finalize the arrangements regarding the printing press and supplies in the next few days, after all, so printing could begin once she had received the books that needed copying.

Which meant, she and Ron would be focused on the actual press, at first, while she continued to obtain collections and worked out details for the store, and having someone do the actual construction that might be necessary would be a good solution. She'd speak to Ron about it, too, since they were partners, at least with the publishing as she doubted he'd want to be that involved with the store, but it made sense to meet with Jordan and see if he might make a good employee.

Mr. Jordan,

I must admit that your letter surprised me. I do remember you, of course, but I don't recall a passion for books during your time at Hogwarts. However, it has been many years since then and people change. I'm pleased to see that your interest in them has increased over time.

Ron and I are, indeed, working on starting a small publishing company, of sorts, and I've plans to open a bookstore, too. There will be a need for labor in regards to converting the location I've found into a bookstore as well as a need for an employee to help run it once it's open, which probably won't be for another month, at least.

I'd be happy to meet with you to discuss the venture and your possible employment, though I must warn you that your salary, to start, would be minimal, at best, and possibly consist of meals and such. It's only fair to be honest about such things. Do let me know if you'd still like to arrange a meeting.

Sincerely,

Hermione Granger
