Date: November 27, 2004 Character(s): George Weasley, Katie Bell, Anyone else who is friends with Katie. Location: Five Alarm Status: Public Summary: Party time! Completion: Complete
When the three of them approached the Five Alarm, the lack of noise was a little surprising, considering there was usually sounds from the customers even heard in the street.
“At least we’ll have the place all to ourselves,” Katie remarked to Alicia and Angelina as she rested her hand on the door. “Although I suppose on a Monday night, what else is there to expect?”
She pulled open the door, prepared to let the two of them walk through in front of her, but they seemed hesitant, so Katie shrugged and walked in the door, the two of them following close behind.
When the yell of “Surprise!” coincided with her identifying those in the crowd clustered into the bar, already sipping on drinks, Katie had already drawn her wand, ready to defend herself. When she realized what was going on, she sheepishly put it back in the pocket of her cloak.
Apparently somebody had actually remembered her birthday. The large banner that read Happy Birthday Katie! was a pretty clear indication the gathering was for her.
Turning to her friends behind her, she grinned widely. “You guys didn’t have to do all this!”
Even Alicia startled a little at the noise. But the decorations were so pretty! Shrugging at Katie's comment, she debated whether or not to admit that she hadn't made the arrangements.
"'Twas all George's idea, I promise," she said, waving to George and was that Lee? Gods, everyone was coming out of the woodwork!
Seeing her firewhiskey on the bar, she kissed Katie's cheek and said a cheery "Happy Birthday!" before going to inspect the alcohol supplies.
"Your idea?" Katie replied with a grin while George walked towards her. "You managed to arrange this all, despite being out of town arranging for supplies for the apothecary...call me impressed."
She smiled up at him, before glancing around at all the people gathered in the bar, most woom she hadn't seen in a very long time. The place was even decorated, some pretty flowers gracing the the bar itself.
"This is amazing George," she told him with an amazed laugh. "And, devious. Between you and Alicia, and even Fred the other night, I had no clue."
George laughed. "I managed to make all the arrangements before I left. I must say I'm impressed it managed to stay a secret. Considering I involved Alicia and let Fred in on the plans."
George leaned in to give Katie a hug kissing her on the forehead as he did so. "Happy Birthday." He whispered in her ear. "The flowers on the bar are for you."
"Considering the way gossip seems to go in this town? I'm surprised too," Katie replied with a grin. "Although let me guess, Fred lorded the secret over you so that you would owe him for the entire week...." She was shocked he managed to stay silent the entire time when they were working in the apothecary.
And Alicia, that was a shock in itself.
She hugged him back, feeling a little odd, especially in public. Katie could feel his breath when he whispered in her ear. "Thanks," she replied almost as softly when he pulled back. "Really George, it's perfect. I wasn't expecting anything but drinks with the girls this evening."
George smiled and put his hands in his pockets. He knew Katie probably wouldn't like it if he stood there with his arms around her all night, although he definitely wouldn't have minded it.
"Well we couldn't let you do just that. We didn't do anything major for your 25th birthday so we'll make up for it this year."
George looked around at the party going on and realized that no one had turned on the wireless. "Hey Seamus, you lazy Irish arse you forgot to turn on the wireless!"
George grinned at Katie, "I knew I forgot something."
"It's not a party without music," Katie agreed with a smile.
She recognized nearly everyone in the room, even though they had all clearly matured beyond the way they had been in school. George's brother Ron was there, with Harry and Hermione, even if they seemed to be hiding out a little.
"I'll talk to you soon," she promised George, "but I think I need a drink."
George rolled his eyes at Charlie. A grown man and Charlie still couldn't take anything seriously, but then again he was a Weasley and George knew he was worse.
George felt a blush creep up his cheeks at his brother's question. "No, uhh, we're just friends," George told him rubbing the back of his neck.
George sighed. "Well hopefully no one else will notice."
George looked around at the crowd. "Not sure, I just sent out a bunch of invitations, didn't pull together an RSVP list or anything. Its mostly a see who shows up and those that do show up drink sort of thing."
Charlie watched his younger walk away and swelled with pride. George was really an amazing bloke, and he was looking forward to spending more time with him now that he was home.

"Alright, George? This looks like a great party. Hope you don't mind my popping in. Ron mentioned it to me earlier."

"Just so you know the girl I was just talking to is Katie, the birthday girl. She was a year under me in Gryffindor."

It felt good to be here, carefree, drink in hand, laughing with his brother. Just taking the piss, like when they were younger.
"So, are you and she...?"

The crowd seemed to be growing, and he felt like he might be keeping his brother from his host duties.
"You want to go mingle? We'll talk more later. You also need to promise me to come see my place. It's really shaping up."

George looked around a bit before walking away. "I'll see you later bro."
