School's out for summer

Today is the last day of school for Washington County students. I gave my little girl a hug when I dropped her off at school this morning and told her the next time I see her she'll be a fourth grader. She said, "hmmm." Meaning, "yeah, these things happen. Deal with it."

Last night she made a going away present for her teacher, Mrs. Penny. Mrs. Penny will be teaching in Cedar City next year so the kids won't see her on the playground or in the halls. My little girl is very sad about this so she made her a card. The cover of the card is covered in rose petals and glitter, inside it says, "Mrs. Penny, You are the best teacher in the whole world..." She talked about the things she liked about her class and she hopes Mrs. Penny likes her new school. This morning she had all the kids in her class sign it. If I was a teacher I would be quite touched by this.

She also made a rose petal and perfume satchel, and a popsicle stick picture frame to hold a picture of herself and her best friends in the class. The popsicle sticks said "You're the best Mrs. Penny!" in pink puff paint and were covered in glitter. There is so much glitter covering the hard wood floors of her bedroom that it looks like there was a fairy convention there last night and some of the fairies couldn't take the excitement and exploded. My little girl was still covered in sparkles when she got up this morning, she looked like a walking disco ball. And I am finding glitter in uncomfortable places, like under my contacts.

But I wouldn't trade these moments for the world.
