Water Treatment Plant's operational again! YAY! Still on restricted use as reserves are very low, but given time the reserves will restock. We've been spared most of the rain too. Poor Mission Beach copped 527mm of rain within 24 hours yesterday, like they hadn't copped enough already
( ... )
We've been lucky enough not to get the torrential rain that other spots have. We've had a couple of heavy falls but nothing huge so far. Had a bit of thunder and lightening last night, but nothing came of it. The sky is still dark and cloudy though and we still have severe weather warning for flash flooding so we'll just wait and see.
2700 tonnes of food is being shipped into today to re-supply. I'm so glad I live in a port city right now! :)
All roads North, South and West of us still cat the moment so recovery crews are having a hard time getting in with equipment, but the winds are down so they should be able to fly people in now.
Still over 70,000 people with out power in my town, but we have underground power so ours was up really quickly. People are still being stupid and sight seeing, getting in the road of crews trying to get the city operational again. Very annoying. I really want to see it all too, but you need to let people work!
Hoping I can help out somewhere today. I can't just sit and do nothing! :(
Thanks hon. Lots of work to be done, but bit by bit it will be done and North Queensland will get back on it's feet.
The last official work to restore North Queensland post cyclone Larry 5 years ago was 3 years post the cyclone. With the area this monster cover, it's quite possible it could be a lot longer than that before we see the end of the clean up of Yasi. :(
Thanks Hon, we are very relieved that we we're spared the brunt of this monster. Still very frightening, but not as horrendous as it was for people further north.
Just woke up and saw that you posted another update. I'm so glad that you and your family made it through intact and that the damage to your home isn't as bad as you feared.
I feel with the poor people who really lost everything and the ones that are still waiting for the storm to hit them but I'm so incredibly happy that you and your loved ones are okay. *hughs you tight*
Yeah, it was a full on 24 hours but now we're focussed on cleaning up and getting operational again. The preparation and organisation of restoration and recovery projects has just been incredible. I am so thankful I live in an area that so highly values being prepared, it has made all the difference in this disaster.
