Hi everyone!
We got through it with our house and property intact. A bit of water into the house when the front door burst open at 2am at the peak of the winds, but we are all fine. The kids actually slept through it! I have no idea how, I didn't get more than a few minutes here and there listening to the howling, and at times, screaming winds, and the roof rippling and groaning with the wind gusts and the front window creak as it bowed under the strain of the wind pressure. We were without power from 10:30pm to 5:30pm today. Our power company is incredible. Our towns water treatment plant has been damaged and our water supplies will run out tomorrow, but the laundry sink and the bathtub are full, and the clean buckets are outside collecting the heavy rains hitting the coastal towns tonight and early morning!
We are so incredibly lucky. Our town doesn't look anything like it did yesterday at this time, but it's all repairable. The communities in the eye of the cyclone were not so lucky. Tully, Mission Beach and Cardwell were virtually flattened.
My mum who lives 100kms from where the eye hit up on a mountain is safe and sound but the beautiful rainforest that surrounded them is stripped bare. It's probably what saved their house in the long run as she told me this morning that they huddled together under their kitchen table feeling the floor board beneath them ripple with every gust of wind. I am so very thankful that they we're prepared and spared from harm and too much property damage.
My heart goes out to all the poor people who have lost homes and livelihoods with this devastating event. So much devastation over such a wide area and the damn thing is still moving across western Queensland into parts that have never seen cyclonic activity. Just incredible.
Please keep them all in your thoughts and prayers if you're that way inclined, it's going to be a long road to recovery!
Still lots to do around here, so I won't be around that much in the near future, but I check in as I can.
Love to you all for your wonderful support during this terrifying time. Your are amazing and remind me why I love my fandom. It's for the genuinely compassionate people in it, not just the pretty boys! :P No I haven't lost my sense of humour in the winds! :D
Take care of yourselves.
