Recent tragedy
I don't know how many of you have heard on the news about the shooting yesterday at the DeKalb campus of Northern Illinois University. At last count, 21 students in a geology class were shot by a single gunman, who then fatally shot himself. Five of the students who were shot died (a few at the scene and a few more at the local hospital). This was a great tragedy for the students there as well as students and parents nationwide.
I mention this because I am an alumna of NIU - I graduated from there in December of 2003 - and this shooting has hit uncomfortably close to home. I am fortunate that none of the people I know who are current students at NIU are listed among the deceased victims and I know that my friend's younger brother (specifically) is safe, but the school has not yet released the names of those who are only wounded. Please join with me in keeping all those who are wounded and traumatized by this shooting, in body and in spirit, in your thoughts and prayers.
