Kingston and Back

Thursday was a gloriously sunny but cold day. I drove my Dad from his retirement home in Campbellford to the Hôtel Dieu Hospital in Kingston for an examination by his ophthalmic surgeon. Them treatments seem to be working. The deterioration seems to have stopped and his vision has improved marginally. While not totally blind, he is legally blind and can no longer read or watch television. He has gotten into talking Books, both on the DAISY system from the CNIB and commercial books on cassette and CD from the Campbellford library.

I drove to Kingston using Northumberland County Road 30 and the 401 freeway. Hwy 401 is boring but it is a quick way to put kilometres behind you. Since is was a glorious, sunny day, I decided to take Hwy. 33 including the Adolphustown/Glenora ferry through Prince Edward County back to Rd. 30. I track my kilometres as Veterans Affairs Canada give me an allowance for transporting my father to medical appointments. Interestingly, my total kilometres was 340. In February, when I last made the trip using Hwy. 401 both ways, the trip was 343 km. Possible the ferry ride saved some kilometres.
