obama/biden rally 9-28-08

so, me and my mom ended up going to the obama/biden rally in detroit on sunday. we got there at around 10:45am and parked in the wayne state parking garage then had to walk a few blocks to get to the end of the line. it was the longest line of people ive ever seen and me and my mom were convinced that there wouldn't be room for us. but i figured that we might as well try since we went all the way there. so after several minutes of walking we finally get to the end and this old woman that was behind us talked nonstop the whole time. whenever the line would start moving she'd scream "CLOSE THE GAP!!!!!!!!! CLOSE THE GAP DON'T LET ANYONE CUT IN!!!! MAKE THEM GO TO THE END LIKE WE HAD TO! CLOSE THE GAP!!!!" i couldnt stop laughing. what a nutso. there was a shitload of people selling obama pins and shirts and hats and keychains and towels (??). whenever a person with pins passed by i asked how much they were and some of them were selling them for 5 dollars each. wtf is this shit.

anyways. at 11am the gates opened and when we got in everyone had to go through metal detectors. i felt like i was going into prison and it was awesome. then we decided that we should go pee before we get stuck in the crowd. i dont know how, but all of those porta potties were already filled with diarhea and piss. the gates only opened like 10 minutes before!!! i dont get it. but i hovered so it doesnt matter anyways. there were stacks of free water bottles so i grabbed one and we headed towards the stage. considering that we got there so much later than a lot of people, we had really good spots.

we soon discovered that there were secret service guys on the tops of all the surrounding buildings. it was creepy. then my mom spotted one of the reporters from channel 2 and FREAKED THE FUCK OUT and waved. he laughed and waved back then people around us noticed and freaked out and took pictures and waved. that guy felt like he was the shit. and THEN, my mom spots fucking SINBAD. the guy no one cares about anymore.

that's him with the pale bald head.

about an hour and a half later, someone a few people in front of us passed out from the heat. paramedics came a few minutes later and made sure they were okay. a few minutes later the rally started with the national anthem and pledge of allegiance and the mayor talking and yadda yadda. when the mayor was done he introduced the obamas and bidens and the crowd went absolutely apeshit.

my mom started waving at them in hopes of them seeing her and so i was like "hmm this is an excellent idea" and started waving too. obama laughed and WAVED AT US. i looked at my mom with a face like this: :o

biden talked first

he mostly talked about how out of touch mccain is with everything, which i expected he'd do.

obama was next.

he was like "i know that most, if not all of you, are just here for michelle. but michelle decided she didn't want to talk today. she's just gonna sit there and look cute." how precious.

his speech focused on the importance of voting and education. in the middle of it, another person in the crowd passed out from the heat. he told everyone to give the person air and michelle threw some water bottles to them while they waited for paramedics. over the next several minutes more and more people started leaving the crowd from the heat. but i was able to get closer so HA.

he finished up around 3:10 and the crowd went apeshit again.

they eventually left the stage and we began the slow process of leaving. while we waited for the crowd to thin out, i bought a t-shirt and a tote bag and 2 pins. i looooooove them.

the whole experience was awesome and i wish i could re-live it everyday. everything about it was perfect.
