so whaddya think of the bangs? i have yet to start hating them, so that's a good sign. and The Cheese likes 'em - says they make me look younger. that's definitely a plus! we'll see if i regret the decision to chop the locks when i go jogging again and they make my forehead extra sweaty. i'm sure i may have a little twinge of frustration then!
news... not much to speak of, really.
rented a bunch of movies this weekend. The Cheese and i watched The Last King of Scotland on saturday night and it was excellent. Forrest Whittaker has been high on my top actors list for quite some time (i believe the first time i saw him was in The Crying Game), and he certainly did not disappoint. tonight, if we don't head back over to Mom and Papa T's to watch the Phillies slam the Rays, we may watch The Crow. the PB has yet to see it, and i'm quite certain he'll be pleased.
speaking of the Phillies, i'm not much of a sports fan, but they sure rocked the stadium last night - hitting home runs like it was going out of style! we watched the game from Mom and Papa T's, as we still have no cable, and no real interest in getting it. when the Rays had their last out in the ninth inning, i opened the back door and could hear the fireworks in Philadelphia, accompanied by the sound of many screaming fans. if they win it tonight, it will be a madhouse around here! we have some seriously die-hard sports fans in this area - sometimes it's annoying, but it's nice to see people so passionate about their teams. oh, and they're not obnoxious like most of the fans in Buffalo.
election day fast approaches. for the first time in my life, i actually WANT to vote, and i cannot, due to my only being a permanent resident and not a U.S. citizen. i am nervous and anxious to see how this election goes, and my fingers and toes and other fiddly bits are crossed. i'm also looking forward to spending bonus time with my boys, as they have a ton of days off starting next week. i think they only have school 14 days in november. crazy!
we had talked about possibly going up to Canada for U.S. thanksgiving, but due to our finances being really stretched over the last few months, and the fact that we're hoping to save up for a big trip in 2009, we're going to hold off and probably make the trek at the end of the year. nothing's set in stone, but we're leaning toward a Canadian new year.
love my job. it would be awesome if i didn't get calls from students, or morons who think they can scam the system, but ultimately, i am quite sure i made the right decision to switch roles. i'll be even happier once i get a proper filing cabinet and hook up my new cordless phone, because i'm sure my efficiency level will increase dramatically. hopefully we'll find a filing cabinet SOON that The Cheese actually likes - so far we've found nothing that would look good in the living room, and, well, he's very particular. in the meantime, i suffer!
we have the new
yearlongday shirts, and they're fabulous! seriously, we couldn't be happier with them. we ended up ordering from the same woman who did my first two orders, and she really delivered. we played a show last weekend to a very appreciative crowd, and we have a smallish gig coming up on november 7th for a cd release party (we're track 19, baby!), but other than that, The Cheese is trying to get some songs finished, and hopefully the new album mixed down and produced so that we can actually start sending the damned things out for some radio play or potential gigs down the road. i'd still like to get out to some open mics just so we can stay on top of our live performance, but this is when the weeks seem to shorten and there is so much going on in our lives, it's not often feasible. we're still working hard though, so stick around!
i've been thinking about Gram a lot lately. with the holidays nearing, i'm sure it's going to be rough. my priorities have slightly shifted when it comes to making plans to head up to Canada, and while i do think that all of this has probably brought Dad and i a bit closer together, it sure does a number on my heart. i miss her so much.
sending you all love, chickens. make sure you keep the important people and things in mind as you think about how you'll spend your holidays this year. make it count, ya know?
