Old Skool Pimpin'

Just got back from this joint called Game Force. They buy and sell video games and some DVDs. My brother sent me out to get him a $20 Super Nintendo because he can't find his. The guy tried to slip it past me that he didn't include the wires and controller. I might be a troglodyte, but I am somewhat aware of the basic mechanics of operating a Super Nintendo.

Me: Uh, aren't there some wires and whatnot to go with this?
Apathetic-Looking Clerk: Uh. Oh. Right. (shifty eyes) I guess that wouldn't be a good deal without them, huh?
Me: (internally)Ya think? You overpaid counter-monkey. (aloud) No. Probably not. I don't think he has this extra stuff just lying around.

Poohead.

Anyway, I get home and as I'm taking off my shoes before I go to check my mail and I'm just looking at my shoes, and for some reason I remember this AOL news thing where they were commenting on how there's a growing popularity with the more Old Skool shoes, like All Stars and shell-toe Adidas (both of which, I have a pair, incidentally). I don't see why that's such a surprise. I've been wearing low- and high-top Chuck Taylors since I was fifteen and I love them. They're simple. They're comfortable. I wear them with anything. You put them on, tie them up and you're ready to go. I mean, seriously. These shoes they have nowadays. They're hyped up to the point where you begin to wonder if they could launch you into outer space or send you back in time. It's like, "I came in to buy a pair of shoes. Just shoes. You know. To wear on my feet?" Then the guy offers you a pair of the latest Nike Attila the Hun Cross Trainer Specials or whatever and they're covered in velcro and zippers and shit, it's like crossing the fuckin' Rubicon just to get them on your feet and it's like, "I just wanted some new shoes. I didn't think I'd be taking a MENSA entrance exam."

Siiigghhhh I wish was was fifteen again.
