Christmas this year was in keeping with the rest of the year. In other words we tried to make the best of it considering the continuing crap that rains down upon us. A week before Christmas and K was told after the interview for his job (reorganisation sucks) that he wasn't good enough to do it and the interview panel thought he would never be good enough. They told him that if it hadn't been for his boss sticking up for him he would have been made redundant. As it is he's been put on a year's trial and if he doesn't make "significant progress" then he won't have a job by the end of the year!
Considering that his annual review was "glowing" ,his boss has told everyone she can't do her job without him and that nobody has had any complaints about his ability to do his job I find it all highly suspicious. Yes the re-organised job is one pay grade higher and yes he said his interview wasn't great but surely you rate someone's ability to do a job on how they're doing currently? I am now worried that this will set off his depression. I hate that they're making him feel bad about himself just to try and get rid of him.
So that coupled with his Mum's increasing illness and the possibly impending kidney transplant for her are putting him under considerable stress. We tried our best to make the most of it, after all I'm lucky to be here for Christmas. M was ill with some random tummy bug so the poor thing had toast for her Christmas dinner and slept half the time. Opening the presents was lovely and the kids were really appreciative of all we got for them even though we'd had to economise with me being off sick all year. We spent the rest of the day at my mother in laws were we enjoyed our traditonal turkey with all the trimmings. She always makes a spectacular roast dinner and it was good to spend time with them though we went home early as M wasn't feeling good.
Boxing day was a bit of a damp squib as M was still ill and we couldn't travel over to my brother's for the party. We had a lazy day watching Downton and Ice Age 4 in our pjs which made a change from our usual busy Boxing day. Friday is The hobbit and I can't wait. I usually don't like New Years Eve, I'm more of a Christmassy person, but this year I'll be happy to see it come. I'll be glad to see the back of this year.
