After playing his part in the Inara-Rescue, Derek had wandered around Serenity aimlessly, staying out of people's way. He didn't know what he could do, really. Actually, Pug's been hanging around Mal, but he's right about Sadie.

She pauses now when she smells him there, but then walks over over to a crate in the corner and lifts the lid on a crate so she can stir some left overs and bits into the dirt it contains.

Movement catches his eye and he watches Sadie for a while, shutting down the images on his screen. He doesn't move, though. Just watches.

Sadie finishes and restores the lid, then walks over to another crate and reaches inside to pull out a plump marsh cavie.

"You squeamish 'bout critters buyin' it?" She looks toward Derek.

He blinks. "I shoot people for a living, Sadie. Don't think a critter would phase me much. 'Less it was a puppy or something."

Kaylee was walking throught the cargo bay on her way to the infirmary to check on the Captain and Inara. She was looking up at fighter, admiring it, when she saw Derek up in the cockpit. She smiles brightly and waves to him, hoping he would see her.

He glances up as he hears someone, and he catches Kaylee's wave. With a sad smile he waves back.

He sighs, still smiling, and shuts down the images he was looking at. He jumps down from the cockpit and shoves his hands in his pockets.

"Hi," he says. "Haven't seen you around very much lately."

Jayne being in a good mood walked into the cargo bay and held out a bottle of drink to Derek "Kid, for you" he said in his friendliest manner.
