If memory serves ... there was an episode of Star Trek in which 2 planets were at war. A computer on each planet would designate how many and which if its citizens were "killed" during an "attack", then those people would calmly walk into a destruction machine. Nice neat and clean. One of the morals of the story was "War is ugly" and this is one reason it is to be avoided when possible.

That being said, I'd still punch the dude (Calley) in the face (*metaphorically speaking of course*) if I met him. Just because he's due for one. Or a few thousand.
