I have been sitting at my computer reading about the massacre for hours now.

I am hoping that I have not come across the wrong way for being angry at our government and not the soldiers pulling the triggers. I have been submerged so deep into the cover ups of that war that it's hard for me to see it any other way. This particular massacre got out and into the eyes of America and it devastated our nation. I am grateful that it was exposed. It allowed us to begin ending the war, but that massacre was one of many many many others. Our troops were made into animals or broken completely. They either lost their morals or their minds. A lot of the well trained sargeants and other leaders were mowed down, leaving 18 year old boys to fight a war that they could not see winning. Terrified, scared children posing as tough soldiers being blown up by mines and shot down by invisible enemies. Sanity and moral values decreased and innocent people died.

I have heard so many awful secrets and terrible stories about Vietnam. I grew up surrounded by Vietnam Vets. I am not saying that War Vets willingly talk about it. I'm talking about hearing the nightmares and seeing the breakdowns. The pain of it. It seems most of the Soldiers either cried and freaked out or they separated themselves from their emotions to survive.

I am so incredibly angry at our government. They knew about these massacres and let them happen. They sent soldiers out there unprepared. I am such a war hater.

Upon reading more about this massacre, It seems that Calley was one of about 60 soldiers involved. He was the most inexperienced and was hated by his troop for being incompetant and inexperienced. Most of America saw him as a scapegoat for war crimes, he became a posterboy of blame so we would turn our heads from the real source of the atrocities.

If I were to metaphorically punch anyone in the face for the massacre, I would have punched Nixon. I'll take Bush, too. heh.
