Stop 4: On toward KL

Jul 04, 2007 11:40

Alex got his first taste of driving in Malaysia in the stretch between the jungle and the city. As it turned out, the section of highway he drove is also dubbed the death highway because of its twists and turns combined with the occasional landslide. He did fine though, only a little worse for wear through the heavy traffic areas where one must maneuver as if driving a jag, not a van.

We started off KL with the one cultural thing to do. Batu Caves, an Indian temple set within a cave.

272 steps. Much easier than the steps to see the big buddha at Lantau Island in my opinion, and fewer old chinese ladies hogging the handrail.

At the mouth of the cave was this sign. Inexplicable.

The innards of the cave were themselves a bit disappointing, as they felt unkempt. So used to the high level of cleanliness in Singapore, I felt this could be a truly beautiful spot if it weren't so covered in trash. Not sure whether to be amused or disgusted by the troupe of monkeys lording over the trash pile.

Tee hee. boobs!
