Tom smiled as he snagged the last of the Christmas cookies that Jenko’s wife provided for their annual Christmas party.
“Hey, I wanted that!” Doug yelled at him. Tom took a bite out of it and smiled wider.
“Then come get some.” he said playfully as he held the rest of the cookie in his teeth. Doug snickered and placed his hands on his boyfriend’s hips as he took a big bite out of the baked good.
“I think the eggnog is starting to go to their heads.” Ioki commented. “No people can be born that flirty.” Judy nodded. Tom flipped them the bird as he and Doug finished the cookie and started making out. Sure they were more than a little drunk, but it was a party, right?
“Oh God you guys, can you ever keep it in your pants?” Ioki groaned.
“Nope, not when alcohol is involved. I went over to their place one time for a drink and I had to leave because they got drunk and couldn’t help themselves.” Judy remembered.
Doug pulled away from Tom for a moment. “I remember that! That was fun!” he said, slightly slurring his words. Tom whined and pulled Doug back against him, angry at him for stopping what they were doing. Ioki just gave up and walked away. Tom giggled and nibbled on Doug’s ear. “Lockers?” Doug whispered to him. His partner hiccupped and nodded. Doug took his hand and led him up the stairs.
“I win the bet.” Ioki told Judy with triumph. “I knew they wouldn’t make it home.”
“Damn it!” Judy whined as she handed him a twenty. Just then they heard a knocking at the door. “Must be the next round of pizza.” Judy remarked and answered the door. Her mouth dropped when she saw who it was at the door, just about as much of the opposite of a pizza guy as you can get. “Miss Hanson?”
The middle-aged woman smiled brightly at her. “Hello Judy! I thought I would bring you guys some eggnog as a gesture for the holiday!” she told them holding up a shopping bag. Judy and Ioki looked at each other nervously.
“Well, that’s really nice of you Miss Hanson, I’ll take that.” Ioki told her using his most charming voice and smile, trying to save his friend’s asses.
“Now, hold on, you didn’t think I was going to leave without seeing my son, did you?” she asked him. She took her coat off and hung it on the coat hanger as she walked in. “Where is that boy? I don’t see him anywhere.”
“Uhhh, I don’t know, he was just here.” Judy practically whimpered, running out of things to say. “I’m sure if you would wait a minute...”
“Normally I would, but I’m having company over tonight sweetie.” she said while scanning the party. “Oh, what’s that room upstairs?”
“Uhh, Miss Hanson, that’s just the lockers, he wouldn’t go up there during a party.” Ioki sputtered.
“Yeah, uhhh...” Judy tried to add, but she had already started making her way upstairs. Ioki and Judy both made panicked faces and braced themselves. Seconds later, Miss Hanson found her son, but instead of running over and hugging him she stopped dead in her tracks while her mouth dropped to the floor. Currently, her son was lying sprawled out on the floor with no shirt on with his arms around his MALE partner, whose shirt was unbuttoned and kissing him hard, winding their legs together and gyrating his hips. The next thing everyone heard was a blood-curdling scream. The two parted and looked up, expecting some new officer who had been tricked into walking in on them, but Doug’s eyes widened and Tom practically threw up when he saw it was his mother who screamed. He wildly looked around for his discarded shirt. “Uhh, Mom, I can explain this...” but she had already started running down the stairs. “MOM, WAIT!” but she was already out the door. For a moment there was a dead silence that encompassed the whole chapel, and then everyone burst out laughing and cheering. All the color had drained from Tom’s face and he looked absolutely horrified. Doug just sort of stood there, somewhat embarrassed but he also thought the situation was extremely funny, especially the look that was on his lover’s face. Fuller, who had until then been in his office, chose that moment to step out.
“Alright, what’s going on...WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?!?” he exclaimed as he discovered the two, only adding to the laughter. A small smile cracked on Doug’s face and Tom practically shoved him down the stairs.
“I think it’s a good idea for you two to let me drive you home.” Judy told them, caught between shock and laughter. Tom quickly pulled on his shirt and slapped Doug upside the head as he took a bow to the crowd.

“I just got disowned.” Tom wailed, dropping his head into Doug’s lap in the backseat of Judy’s car.
“No, you didn’t.” Doug assured him, sliding his fingers through Tom’s hair. “She was just...surprised. Just about as much as we were.” he mumbled.
“Oh yeah, that’s a REAL great way to find out your son is gay, spread out on the ground with his boyfriend like a two dollar whore!” he exclaimed.
“Hey, this wouldn’t have happened if you would have just waited like we told you.” Judy pointed out.
“Shut up Judy, I know!” he cried pitifully. She just sighed.
“Well, you were talking about how you were going to tell her.” Doug told him.
“I didn’t want her to find out like this, asshole! Don’t you want my mom to like you?” he cried.
“Well, yeah, but I just don’t think this is the end of the world.” he told him. “I think that she’s gonna understand. Remember when she talked to you about how her last boyfriend was terrible in bed?” Tom shuddered at the thought.
“If you weren’t so good in bed then I would throw you out of this car.” he growled. Doug guffawed and let his boyfriend kiss him.
“Oh, hell no!” Judy yelled at them as she turned a corner. “Not in my car! And didn’t you just learn a major lesson?”
“What the hell else do I have to lose?” he asked her.
“YOUR SKULL!” she yelled back at him.

Tom’s heart leaped into his throat as he rang his mother’s doorbell the next morning. When she answered the door her eyes widened.
“Uh...hi Mom.” Tom greeted. She looked him right in the eyes.
“Are you here to explain what happened yesterday?” she asked bluntly. Tom felt like he had been kicked in the stomach. She gave him a small smile and touched his cheek. “Tom, honey...I’m not angry with you, but you have to admit, that was quite a surprise for me.”
Tom sheepishly nodded, comforted by the fact that she truly didn’t seem angry. “I could explain things on a walk. I parked down on the next block.” The older woman nodded and closed the door.
“So, when were you planning on telling me about this?” she asked him. He shrugged.
“I was actually planning on telling you soon, since I’m dating now and everything.” She raised her eyebrows. “Just how many boyfriends have you had?”
“Just Doug. I have a feeling he’s going to be my last, though.” he told her.
“Oh, finding out that men aren’t really who you’re attracted to?” she asked. Tom shook his head. This was the part he had been afraid of.
“No. I mean, I’m in love with Doug and I’m gonna stay with him.” he explained. Her mouth dropped and so did Tom’s stomach.
“You...you mean like get married?” she asked.
“Well, we can’t legally do that, but...we would if we could.” he said softly.
“Oh Tom...”
Here it comes; he’s going to get disowned. She’ll hate him forever. Why did he have to fall in love with a man?
“Why didn’t you tell me you were in love with Doug?” He looked up at her with eyes the size of dinner plates. She sighed. “Tom, all I want is for you to be happy. If you’ve met someone you love this much then I love them too, if for no other reason that that they make you so happy.”
Tom rubbed the back of his neck. “Really?” he asked with disbelief.
“Yes!” she told him, pulling him into a hug. “Besides I like Doug, he makes me laugh. And he’s not exactly bad looking.” He chuckled and looked ahead of him. Doug was waiting for them outside of his mustang that they retrieved from the chapel that morning. He smiled shyly at them as Tom waved to him. “Go get him.” his mother told him. He smiled at her and walked up to his partner, nearly killing him with confusion when he wrapped his arms around his neck and kissed him.
“Don’t worry, she likes you.” he whispered when he pulled away.
