Greenland Cafe

Last night Christene and I went to the Greenland Cafe on Washington St. We had gone food shopping and when we got home realized one of the ingredients we thought we had at home, we did but it had expired. Rather than go back out, and end up eating at 10PM we decided to get take out, which got upgraded to let's try the new Polish restaurant, which ( Read more... )

I do appreciate any story in which "four cougars" figure.

The difference between yvette and violette is really striking -- as you point out, one is really a perfume and the other is a liqueur -- but both are good to have after decades without either.

Let us know when you make that trip up to Rabelais and we'll buy.

We hope to get up to Rabelais within the next few weekends. Fortunately, we have Cow Hampshire as a buffer against Maine's twin sirens Weiser Antiquarian and Rabelais, yet even she tempts with her easy on easy off highway-side discount liquor stores. Oh, but if they only had drive up windows like they did in Texas. Perhaps we shall live to see the ability to text our order ahead and have it tossed in our window at the tolls, deducted from our EZ Pass.

We have also been tempted to linger in those rest stop Xanadus but know it was Kappy's that God invented to reward the faithful. Looking forward!

We were in Kappy's the other night, as it is the best stocked liquor store near Salem, and overheard a conversation from the next isle between an older customer apparently looking for a gift, and a clerk. "I recommend the Jagermiester, what is it she asked, its a liquor kind of spicy and comes in a gift pack, I am sure he will love it". Perhaps she was asking what to get her frat boy grandson for his Gentleman Cs?

However, for Noble Spirits I can recommend none other than Federal on State street next to the old city hall, voted best in America by Whiskey magazine.

Maybe it was for a new sexagenarian beau...

Hugos is next door to Rabelais and we've been looking for an excuse to look at their bar menu. They're another of those St. Germain spots but something called the "Austrian on Vacation" was a big hit last time -- hope we're in town when you all are!
