So, there you have it. Meanwhile, work just won't let up, the "social calendar" got suddenly full. Saw a Händel opera tonight, "Rodelinda." Incredible production values. Because the whole story has this dark betrayal theme (opera? never.) the director and the designer did the whole thing like a film noir, right down to the 1940s Mercedes on the stage with the protagonist being stuffed into the trunk.
I about fell outta my seat laughing.
Brilliantly staged and a lotta fun to watch. In most opera, there's what we call stand and deliver....the soprano walks to the middle of the stage, turns to face the audience and you listen to an aria that you either love or snore through. In this one, no aria was without *acting*...people were actually moving the story along.
It was pretty cool.
Okay, bed. Back to salt mines tomorrow, then the contest up in Napa on Saturday, then maybe on Sunday I'll do the dishes...(don't go in there....)
