The relief of some pressure

Soon, I'm going to be leaving my job to go to Maryland and get married. I think my boss knew this, because last week she approached me with a basic "what will it take to keep you here?" Which was flattering, to say the absolute least. But still, we had made our decision, and we were going to Maryland.

So yesterday, I went to her and told her the news. I commented that, ideally, I'd be able to keep the job somehow, maybe through some kind of freelance or "work from home" method while I'm in Maryland. She entertained the idea and said she'd put up a proposal for the bosses sometime later this week.

Then this morning she calls me into the office. I figure any answer this fast has to mean that she got an instant negative response. So she closes the door, gets a big smile on her face, and says "I got you approved for full-time work from home."

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

This means I don't have to worry about finding another job, especially while planning the wedding. It also means that I'll have flexible hours (since I'm working from home), and I can work wearing my boxers if I want to. I asked why the answer was so quick, and she basically said that the big bosses (the Publisher, Associate Publishers and HR Director) have been impressed enough by me to trust me on it. She thought she would have to sell it to them a little more, but she didn't at all.

In fact, when one person told the Publisher I could stay, his words (as reported to me) were: "Thank God." Again, flattering.

So my boss still has to work out a few details, and then I'll tell the people around the building. I'll be driving back to the office about once a week to check in and have some meetings, but that's actually less driving than I'm doing now, and they might end up giving me some kind of gas allowance. Sweet.
