Wow this week has been hella crazy
Saturday was 2*Sweets first show back in IL. It was great to see everyone (especially Ashley) again. Dave looked kinda depressed at the show which was sad to see. He's usually really happy to be around. Ashley has a boyfriend now who's really cool and talkative. Kira didn't show up which made me sad, but at least we got to talk to the lead singer of the opening band who is apparently my long lost twin says everyone. Neither one of us saw the relation except for the way we dress, but it was funny anyway. The food there way also pretty damn awesome.
Depressedfest with Sian and Katie yesterday. We ate tons of chocolatte, watched Family Guy and talked about how things suck. It's kinda weird that Jerome is really gone right now. It's hard to picture Katie and Sian without him.
I had the oddest experience on the train there. I'd had a weird dream last night that I wasn't quite sure how I felt about, when I notice that my U-Pass is missing. Of course this gets me all upset and I have to pay for the train there, all the while freaking out that I lost it.
Fast forward to the point where I'm running up the stairs to just barely catch the train. I brought a sandwich with me so I started eating it but then people started sitting closer to me so I stopped. A black woman sat down right in front of me, and it took me a few moments to realize that she was a bum. The bags she had were covered in dirt, as was the sweater she kept that I saw when she opened one of them.
She smelled like super-sweet and fruity candy that had been left out for a few days. It wasn't pleasant, but it wasn't unpleasant either. Part of me was considering moiving to another train or trying to get away from the smell, but I decided that it wasn't fair to her. So many people like her get treated without any dignity (for more information on that you can check out sian's latest post), that I felt I should sit next to her and at least have enough kindness not to move awa or seem grossed out by her.
After a while she pulled out an obviously well-used 2-liter bottle and began drinking the last 2 sips out of the odd orange-looking liquid inside. My parents once saw a bum go through the trash, pour every last bit of all the thrown away pops into his bottle, and then down the whole thing. I can only imagine what was inside of hers.
A few train stops before me the usual leaving and getting on was taking place, when I noticed that the people in front of the bum were leaving. Two black women stepped onto the train, and while there was a perfectly good seat in front of the bum, they decided instead to stand there, using the seats as a barrier. Yes, that extra 1 foot of space made such a difference to them that they prefered to stand the whole train ride.
"Hello"
Out of nowhere that came, I turned my IPOD down and looked up. The bum was actually talking to the women, who were rudely ignoring her.
"HELLO", she said, as she motioned to the seats in front of her, indicating that it was safe for them to sit down. I kept watching as the bum became annoyed with the women. Soon enough she stood up and looked at me. Her bags almost made her lose her balance.
"Do you need any help?", I asked.
Then she took out the sweater covered with filth and said
"Would you like to buy this nice sweater to keep you warm?"
It was here that I noticed many of her teeth were missing.
"Oh no thank you." She asked for change, and I searched around but couldn't find any. I wanted to offer her my sandwich but I'd already bit into a a bit and I wasn't sure if she would take offense.
Then I got off the train for depressedfest, where I found Katies apartment torn up by her crazy roomates.
When I finally got home I ended up staying on the phone and stickam with everyone til 5am, and sleeping through my alarm for school. Oh well, I needed a day off.
