(Mc)Cain (un)able

Jon Stewart had Republican presidential candidate John McCain on his show tonight.  Lately, I was begining to develop the opinion that Stewart's ability to corm consice, astute, and wonderfully relevant points on serious issues was begining to wane in recent months.  Tonight, I was plesantly proven wrong, as Stewart brought out the big guns, whilst still treating McCain with a degree of respect that a) other leftists/centrists like Bill Mahar or Penn Jillette would not show him and b) right wing pundits would NEVER show a democratic candidate.  Kudos to Stewart for being able to keep the political dialogue biting and poignant, but still retain a level of civility which is very rare these days.

Stewart's metaphor ability was in fine form tonight.  When pressing McCain for an explanation as to why administration officials (McCain included) deride media and activists alike for exposing the conditions at Walter Reed Military Hospital.  In addition,  questioning the extention of duty by three months.  Stewart's contention that when people condem the administration for these (and other) issues, how can Bush, Cheney, McCain et. al make a moral claim to supporting the troops, while condeming those who talk about these issues as not-supporting the troops?  Said Stewart: "If an architect builds a house with no doors and no windows, that architect cannot condem people outside for not being able to see inside".

Well said, and well done.  I look forward to the probable DVD, "Indescision 2008".
