Theresa Derwin and I went to see Prisoners yesterday, and both of us were knocked sideways by a genuinely intelligent and challenging thriller which is by turns a crime procedural and a meditation on whether ends can ever justify the means employed to secure them (the title is no coincidence: it's clearly a subtextural reference to US torture techniques at Abu Ghraib). By a long chalk, one of the best films I've encountered this year.
