This afternoon I went to
Dilettante on Broadway, a restaurant in Seattle best known for chocolate and desserts. I had been invited by "M", a friend I met this spring through other SIFF friends. Six people showed up. The social gathering was pleasant, particularly since the conversation was frequently about movies, the subject that seemed best for engaging everyone in the discussion.
I had one of my favorites from the place, "chocolate rendezvous"; it was delicious as usual. Another friend discovered that they also had brunch and dinner menus, not just dessert foods. That early in the afternoon, one could order from the brunch menu, and she got an omelette, which she said was delicious.
After the brunch, I got a Facebook message from "M", thanking me for attending her birthday party. I hadn't even realized that it was her birthday; I should have brought a card.
In early evening, I went to a three-author reading at
Richard Hugo House, at the invitation of "J", who has been a Hugo House member and was familiar with some of the authors. The authors reading were
Barb Johnson of New Orleans and Seattle authors
Catherine Kirkwood and Kayleen Dunson.
After the readings, I asked the headliner, Barb Johnson, whether she knew of
louismaistros, since they're both from New Orleans, and she had spoken of writers' communities while telling about how she switched from being a carpenter to being a writer. It turned out that she did; they had met at writing events. I said that I knew him through Livejournal, mentioning that it was an online community.
