absentmindedness, soup

I did something foolish while taking "T" to school. I had a defective product - a frozen orange juice package with a rip at the rim - to return to the grocery store and a travel mug of tea. But when I got to the car, the door wouldn't unlock because I forgot my keys (and mask). I put the items on the roof of the car, and went back for keys and mask. After T was secured in the car, I drove off.
What essential step had I missed? Retrieving the items on the roof! Not quite halfway to school, I heard a noise from the roof, and saw liquid - my tea - streaming down the rear window. At the next intersection, I turned off from the arterial onto a sleepy side road. The travel mug hadn't fallen off the roof, but the turn flung it off - another clang as it struck the asphalt. I set the blinkers, checked for traffic, and retrieved the mug from the road. The frozen juice package was still on the roof. I put the mug and juice inside the car, got in, and got back on the way.
Somewhat to my surprise, the stop was quick enough that I still got T to school on time. The only loss was the spilled tea.
I wrote yesterday about making leftover turkey (and rice) soup, but not getting a chance to try it out. I tried it today, and I was pretty pleased; it was good, other than the need to be careful about bones I missed. "J" gave some to T, and he liked it so much that he asked for seconds. He did, however, complain that he didn't really like the turkey - but he liked everything else a lot.
I should find the recipe and share it here.
Update (next day): I did indeed share the recipe.
