I know exactly what you are talking about. Before i was born, my parents debated as to what i should be called.My mom said my dad wanted something conservative so when i entered the work world i wouldn't be looked at as strange or whatever. Someone once said he was in essence preparing me for a lifetime of middle management. My mom wanted something more adventurous.

i know this is an old post... but did you ever read freakonomics? it has some interesting thoughts/research on naming children. apparently stephanie is one of the more popular names among low socio-economic families (in the 1990s). this is because it was a more popular "well-to-do" name in the 80s. it's an interesting book. did you know that just having books (not necessarily reading them) makes kids smarter?
