Victory!

Well, I have been pretty busy the last couple of days, trying to throw together the two big design projects I had for myself this break- redoing my portfolio and creating a portfolio website.

The physical portfolio was a much needed update since I've done a lot of better work since my last cohesive printing and because I need to start submitting it for jobs. After getting it all compiled into one pdf at work today I ran a test print and recognized a few minor fixes I'll have to make tonight before minting the final copy tomorrow at work. (I put it up as a download on the website tonight anyway though).

As for the website, its good to finally be pretty much done with it. As with the portfolio, there's a few small fixes I need to make in the next few days, but for most intents and purposes it is done with. I've been working on this website through the fall semester for a class, but actually hosting it online at the end of the semester brought its own set of challenges that I've been trying to understand this break. I have a very limited knowledge of html or any other sort of code so I built most of the website in Flash.

Designing the site was a lot of fun, and I knew how to do simple buttons, but ohh man do i hate loading, and levels and all that other junk. I even had the loading down, but then  I ran into other issues, like gaps between loading, etc etc, lame lame.

Anyway all this to say, I used my conniving ways to bend the code to my will (which is iron) and get the site to pretty much work with barely any code at all! It was so depressing seeing the mountains of code that people on online boards were recommending and i thought i was in way over my head (I kind of was tho) and would never finish the site. Fortunately I kind of hacked it together in a way that operates by using really simple commands. Not as fancy as some sites, but I got it to work they way I had visually designed it before delving into actionscript and code, which was the goal.

The site is 99% done, although there are a few lil' tweaks ill try to work out.

AUF WEIDERSEHEN SCHNEE-FRAULEINS!!
