I'd like to start with this post with a vote of thanks to the Universe that I am not currently on fire, under water (fresh or marine), under a pile of rubble, awaiting news of a missing loved one, cooking in a volcano, or suffering the effects of radiation poisoning. I've just paid the biggest power bill I've ever seen, but that means I have access to both electricity and the funds to support my power-usage habits. I'm pleased that our water usage continues to be way below local averages, and yet I have plenty of water with which to drink and wash.
My activity levels are slowly picking up. Today I did the following:
* Got up, bathed, breakfasted, and put my hair in two high ponytails. It's surprisingly comfortable and not nearly as silly-looking as anticipated. The purple (which is rapidly becoming bright pink and is as yet unwitnessed by non-family) helps.
* Drove to level 2 shops to return The Social Network which was muchly enjoyed last night, with ongoing ironic commentary on FB. Speaking of commentary I'd like one day to listen to it, but not straight after watching the film. Words. So many words.
* Cut some fabric from the stash to officially reach the first "it covers my nakedness" milestone of the next Swancon costume. This involved crawling around on the floor and some Pumpkin resettlement, and the slightly triumphant unearthing of my dressmaker's dummy. Some non-trivial spoon action right there.
* Washed out Princess' ears (with Husband assist). Yesterday performed a minor surgical procedure to remove a HUGE chunk of wax from her ear with a clay-modelling tool (by myself, on a conscious cat, which in hindsight I'm not sure is impressive or foolhardy). Haven't seen her scratching today so hopefully that's settled for now.
* Was taken on request and by Husband to Lake Monger to people-watch. He was promised icecream, and lo, there was an icecream truck. We moved betwen a couple of benches near the carpark, and saw surprisingly few people, but many birds. The lake is very very low :-( In lieu of people-watching we observed a small group of corellas playing gently on the grass. They tumbled about and played tug o' war with twigs, rather like clumsy puppies. Beaks and claws were deployed freely but without malice. They were absolutely charming and occasionally hilarious. Much better than people.
* Read a couple of short stories.
Not quite up to brain level yet, but the physical improvements are much appreciated. Not sure if I'll ever get around to working on The Book again; as soon as I feel any kind of energy the last place I want to be is in front of the laptop. One day balance will return to the force.
