Cityscape: Pastel WIP
This is a WIP of my first Plein Air-try. I did the sketching on site as well as laying in the core values. It was a fairly cool fall day, the weather changing between sunny late-summer with incredibly intense light and strong rain (that brought my Plein Air session to an end after an hour). I took photos also due to the changing weather conditions - and because I love photographing.
The view is from the mural by the "Legge", a beautiful city gate in the historic part of Tecklenburg, North-Rhine/Westphalia. Tecklenburg is known for its incredible historic city center with many buildings from the 15/16th century. Unlike many cities it's not just a street or two with the old buildings intact but the complete center including a good percentage of living quarters of this small city.

In addition, despite being located in Northern Germany the city is rather mountainous (owing to its loacation at the outskirts of the Teutoburg Forest - where the famous defeat of the Roman Armies under Varus by Germanic tribes under Arminius took place 9 AC) with steep streets and pathways and great views, having lead to the byname "Germany's most northern mountain village".
Tecklenburg is also famous for its open-air theatre, whose musical productions routinely win prizes: the way up to its site - where the old castle stood - leads right past my location! So while I sketched and painted hundreds of tourists, packed with huge picnic bags and blankets/bed rolls and other utilities to keep warm and comfortable sitting outside in autumn, ambled past or rested here on the way up. Also to sneak looks over my shoulder ^_^
My motive while it was still sunny My view to the left - this street leads to the castle ruins/now open-air theatre, the weekend after next incidentally at the Christmas Market I'll be spending my free time selling lottery tickets for the local animal shelter right where the tourists drink their beer in the photo *hopes for dry weather*
