thursday

spent the early part of the day recovering from my dave matthews experience, because i mean come on, it takes awhile. i went out to lunch with nick and adrienne and we had our pita cafe experience. frankly i've become obsessed and their milk smoothies make my day better. after that i drove out to the lake to meet my cousins alexis and erin and my mom, so we could get ready for our second consecutive concert.... hootie and the blowfish. i hadn't seen them since their concert back when i was in middle school... we ate at the v.i.p. restaurant, discussing our spiro girlness and all of that wonderful stuff, and went down to watch the opener play. erin and alexis got up to get some drinks and came back with a margarita for me... it was fun being able to just casually drink with them because it feels like we're all having a good time.

then came hootie. and they were amazing. darius looks awesome now, he's slimmed down and was doing this little dance around the stage in between singing, it was so adorable. they played all of their songs from the first cd, some songs from the second and third which i proudly knew and then some new stuff. but what was so great was that it was totally like a barenaked ladies concert, because they started singing other songs. all of a sudden darius breaks out into some nelly and snoop dogg and then did a whole part of "no diggity", it was great. they came back for two encores. the first one they played "only wanna be with you" and in the middle of the song started playing the guitar riff to "walk this way" and played the entire song, then went back to their song. the second encore they did a cover of "black water" and had everyone singing... it was just an awesome concert, and it made me appreciate how great of a band they really are. that night when we got back we broke into the tub of laffy taffy candy that my mom bought at costco... we laughed ourselves silly with some of the jokes on the wrappers...

friday

the holiday was spent pretty well. the girls were already out there with us, and then my dad came out with my puppy and brother, and then my grandma and aunt and uncle were out there. and much to everyone's surprise, my older brother sean, sister in law marina, and nephew all came out there for awhile. and wow, it only took about three months for me to see them since i last saw them in april. it was nice to talk to sean all about the michigan state stuff and what my schedule is like. basically we spent the day out on the boat, laying out in the sun... it was okay in the morning, poured for awhile which gave the four of us girls the chance to eat more guacamole and watch the end of 'my best friend's wedding... and after the rain the day got so beautiful and everyone else made it out there. later that night we had our own little fireworks display on our beach, and the people across the lake had these amazing fireworks going on too.... it was just so pretty. after our fireworks were over, all of us girls started getting into this sing-along mood (probably from watching the movie and singing 'i say a little prayer' and 'the way you look tonight') and ended up standing in a circle together belting out whichever song came to mind... we went through "jessie's girl" and "i will survive" and "american girl" and about the first three verses of "american pie"... all the while not drinking anything... just our own natural girl energy. it was just such a great fourth of july. being together with family out on the lake with beautiful weather and food and fireworks and laughs. one of the best ones ever.

saturday

the fifth of july is my dog's birthday. this year she turned eleven. we're always out at the lake for the fourth that we just continue the celebration there for dakota's birthday. that morning we had this awesome breakfast and, as my mom and i demanded we'd do, we watched 'best in show' because alexis and erin hadn't seen it yet. so all of us are munching on this mexican style breakfast with corned beef hash and guacamole while watching that crazy movie... classic family moment i guess. we, the girls at least, had been dying to see 'legally blonde 2', and the weather was kind of crappy earlier on that day anyway, so we all went out to the 12:20 show. it was a very cute movie, i liked the first one a bit better because i laughed more, but this one was adorable nonetheless. it was the necessary chick-flick of the weekend. after the movie it started to clear up, so once we got home we got back into the bathing suits... erin was going to the guster concert so she had to leave, and my mom, alexis, and i watched 'waiting for guffman', another christopher guest movie that my mom and i told alexis she had to watch. we gave my dog all of her little doggy treats for her birthday and sang to her... nick and susan were supposed to come out that day too, so i called after the movie and they came over with chris in the late afternoon. we all went out on the boat with my mom, brother, and alexis. she and my brother went tubing together, and then susan and i ended up tubing together... my arms are killing me today... it was a lot of fun, especially since i haven't seen susan since the all-night party and nick had his digital camera so he was taking pictures of us and has these shots of before we fell off and just as we were falling off and then us in the water. after the crazy tubing times, we sat in the hot tub for awhile talking, i took susan on a jet-ski ride because she had never been on one before, and then we all got ready for dinner. we went to this restaurant across the street called bullfrogs, and the best part about it there is that they have the trivia game with the controllers. susan and i were the 'chicks', and we ended up winning because we are just good like that. after dinner we drove to cook's farm dairy which is this amazing ice cream place, and on the way we were listening to cher's 'believe' in my dad's car while nick followed us... suffice to say, my brother justin hates that song with a passion... which meant that we simply played it loud and sang even louder. we made it in there just before they closed, and before we left the parking lot, my dad decided that we would have a dance party outside. he cranked up the cher song again and as the rest of us sang and danced along, my brother walked away and sat far from us, but i was just like "hey justin :::waving arms frantically::: come over here!"... the people in the parking lot thought that we were crazy, but oh well. then ricky martin's "cup of life" came on and we were going even more crazy... it was honestly so much fun. we finally left, i said goodbye to nicky and susan and chris, and when we got home alexis, justin and i went back out to rent some movies. we ended up falling asleep anyway but it was worth the effort.

sunday

today was just another lazy, beautiful day. alexis and i spent the morning out in the sun, and then we went out on the boat with a mission: getting up on skis... we just bought new ones because we didn't have any, and my mom hasn't done it in years... but on her first try she got up and stayed for half way around the lake. she was so excited, it was really cute. then i tried... and failed miserably. but i'm going to practice a lot this summer... apparently i made progress but ah well, it's a goal. alexis hasn't skiied before either, but after a couple of tries she got up on them and she looked so accomplished. at least there were a couple successes. my only successes of the day were that i started my summer reading... oh yeah, i have to read a book for school... not fun... and i also got extremely tan today... okay, burnt. but it'll fade into a beautiful tan...

and i got new freckles.
which is an accomplishment.

i'll just say it was an amazing weekend.
and i loved every minute of it.
