Oh man. Help me out, flist. I'm looking for flights to Lima right now, and I can't decide! The problem is that return flights are usually cheaper, so I should decide if I want a direct flight back home in November. November! Not only is that ten months from now, I'm still thinking about stopping by Chicago on the way back and attend the

It is! Even if probably everybody (besides you, of course) is going to think I'm nuts.

Plus, as the time draws closer, you'll be able to find roomies and such. I know a lot of people booked their tickets for '08 at the '07 event, so tons of folks are going.
I think it's hilarious that you're saving that story to read there. And it's such an awesome story, you will easily get over any guilt. ;)

Oh, you're right, I hadn't thought of that. I also didn't know that you could already buy tickets at last year's convention. The problem I have is just that as the time draws closer, I won't have regular internet access anymore. Ah well. I'll just do it and hope it'll work out somehow.

Oh, I'm not feeling any guilt. However, I hope nobody there will ever ask me what I'm reading. ;) And I know it's awesome, I read the beginning and some parts in the middle because my curiosity wouldn't back down. :)

so what if - then you "lost" 100 euro, but will spent a couple of wonderful days in Chicago nonetheless. I'd pay a 100 bucks extra for a Chicago trip any day without there being a convention.

2. There is tons to do in Chicago, so even if the convention were a no go, you won't be short on things to do. I live an hour and half from there, I've been a million times, and still haven't done everything.
3. If you're a student, try looking at student travel sites- you might find even cheaper airfare. It's standby, but usually that's not a problem if it's just you.

I guess that's always the case, no matter where you live. :) I hope that even with the convention I'll have time to do some sightseeing. Maybe I'lll get back to you then and ask you about what things I need to see. :D
Unfortunately I won't be a student anymore by the time I'm travelling, and I'm too old for a discount, too. :(

I'm asking because I just signed up for an intensive Spanish course in another attempt to master the language eventually. I'm the type of person who, after learning the basics, needs to spend some time in a Spanish-speaking country to get a good grasp on the language. I'm just wondering how much I need to advance before braving Latin America on my own. :)

"On your own", ich weiß nicht genau... )
