I have been making rapid progress on the house-prep project. I've got one small corner to clear things away from and finish spackle work on the main house, along with a couple boards to re-secure to the house and then spackle/caulk them. One spot on the back of the cottage still needs attention but I need to relocate the wood pile from where it sits in order to get the ladder back there. I've also sanded three walls of the house and one on the cottage. That goes especially fast when "cheating" with my orbital sander and 150 grit paper on it. *swooosh* and things are cleaned up. I'm hoping, once the sanding is finished I can move on to doing some caulking around the windows and doors, however, I have never been a good caulker. That may end up being left for the painters.
Yesterday I got up on the roof, cleaned the crap out of the gutters and unclogged the gutters as best as I could. Some of them are probably going to clog back up given the stuff I know I couldn't dislodge with a wire hanger and the hose. It comes to mind that I should look into getting some covers to keep the pine cones and needles from landing in the gutters, that would help. Also pounded nails on the roof that have popped up over time. This week will be spent finishing up the prep-work and then next week the painters arrive after the holiday to finish prep where I can't reach and then they will get the house and cottage painted up nice and pretty. Then I can move on to the sand and stain project on the decking. That should be significantly easier this year, mostly just a scuff sand to remove micro-splinters and open the wood for accepting the stain. I may inquire with the painters and see if they'll run the power washer across the decks for me, that'd rock.
And now I've forgotten everything/anything else i was going to say. I suppose I should just get dressed and start in on the day's project work. Whee.
