Well.....
We're here, livin' the Athens life. And it's a good one. I've never felt so at-home and in-the-right-place.
And I've always considered myself a country girl, but I am totally neighborhooding it to the max. So far we've only met two house-fuls of neighbors, but they are very cool and laid back AND they both have FIVE-YEAR-OLD GIRLS. This is big news for Penny, who loves nothing more than playing with girls, and frankly, wanted nothing more from our new house than close proximity to other little girls. We take lots of walks daily and say "how's it goin" to all the friendly people. I pretty much fall in love with everyone I see.
AND there are several businesses that we can easily walk to. To list a few: our bank, the Taco Stand, a dance studio where Penny plans to do tap, one of the TOP BAKERS IN THE COUNTRY, an awesome cafe with good whole food and a totally sweet outdoor patio, the Daily Groceries food co-op, The Grit (quintessential Athens vegetarian restaurant)... I'm very into this walking thing.
I don't have a bike yet, darn it. But soon. I'm having a hard time finding just the right one and the right fit. I'm getting REALLY jealous of Mike's sweet ride, and it's not even totally tricked out yet. Gotta get me some bike-legs.
There's only one thing-- I like our house and all, but we got no porch or deck. I really really need one. Like, NEED. Our Greenville house had neither, and I dealt with it, but I can't live like this any longer! The porch is the most important room of a house to me. Would anybody like to come sleep on our futon and eat our scrumptious food and build a porch for us? In my dreams, Matt Wood would show up with his saw and hammer and say, "All right, Mervas, let's do it."
