I saw Grindhouse yesterday and it rocked my pants off. If you have any regard for yourself or others, SEE IT NOW. It's long. I'll admit that by the time Planet Terror got interesting I had to pee, but every second was "worth the wait". Hahaha! Oh man. Freddy Rodriguez is the man! Who knew? I mean, we all know that Ninja was cool, and he made a sweet half-body builder/Protector with glaring eyes, but I think El Wray is his crowning achievement. "I never miss." OMG.
Just in case you care as much as I do:

So, needless to say I loved Planet Terror, but Death-Proof blew my mind. I thought I knew where it was going, but then the twist was so terrific that I nearly applauded at the end of the film. I mean, there were so many positive and strong female roles. I think that's one thing I love about Tarantino. I mean, if you thought Kill Bill's Beatrix was badass... yeah. Planet Terror was about as exploitative as it gets and so gory even I had to cover my eyes, but Death-Proof was kind of an empowering and uplifting chick flick. in The whole thing was hilarious and I think that if the fake trailer movies were real, I'd pay money to see them.

Yesterday I also bought video editing software for my computer. I was so pissed that I finally got a new digital video camera and they don't make iMovie for Windows. Fuck that! Somebody remind me why I got a Toshiba? [lol. i remember! because it's green.] Anyway... the software package looked cool, but I couldn't figure out how to use it. I spent an hour burning my videos onto DVDs and then deleting the original files so as to clear up hard-drive space. Then I spent well over an hour installing the damn thing. And then it took me 3 hours to update my graphics card, name and upload the MPEGs from my video camera, download and install an MPEG-uncoding driver, make a file that didnt work, and finally, figure out that this program can only use MP3 audio [which means I need to turn at least my film scores into MP3s!]. Finally, at 2am, I had a video. And if, at your own risk, you would like to see the pathetic, dry, and sour fruit of my labours:
I think I just need to play around with it some more. This is at my video camera's lowest setting and at the editor's smallest resolution. Next weekend I'm going to try my Sanyo's HD recording with Pinnacle's DVD-quality resolution. I hope it makes a difference. Then I'll permutate all the possible settings until I find whatever takes up the least possible hard drive space, while providing the best quality picture.
I'm at work again. I've only got like 8 more days of work, and I plan on missing half of them! LOL. I just have so much stuff to do toward the end of the year. If I can get next Saturday off, I'm going to NYC to [finally!(...hopefully...)] purchase my perfume at Bloomingdale's and start looking for London-worthy shoes. Then, depending on how much moolah my dad sends, maybe catch a museum or play. That would rock. OMG. The last few weeks are so busy!
Then, Sweeney Todd on Sunday, STUDY ABROAD DEPARTURE {OMGZ!} meetings on Monday and Wednesday,
Hot Fuzz on Friday.
The week after that is OK Go on Sunday, then just classes and stuff, then The Invisible on Friday, and Inherit the Wind Saturday.
Then the following week: French Final Presentation Tuesday, FRIDAY'S SLOPE DAY [OMGZZZZZZ!], Spiderman 3 Saturday.
Then NYC Sunday, Toronto Monday, 28 Weeks Later Friday.
Then just working on Final Projects, applying for a UK visa, and packing until I'm home on May 18th. Life is Sweeeeeet.
LOL. Looking over this summary... it occurs to me that, as much of a busy life as I think I have, a lot of it revolves around movies and all of it [except of course, for Slope Day and Kitu's b-day] is completely by myself. I feel like I've been practicing for London all year. I had a bad dream last night about being mugged in an alley in London, but I'm sure I'll toughen up soon enough. City people can't be pansies! But seriously. [Oh Efram, you worry!] I do, I worry often... about having to be alone all the time, 8 time-zones from home, without so much as a cell phone or taser. But I think even being mugged would be worth the trip. You never know until you try it.
