Surgery

I'm really not looking forward to tomorrow. My mother is having surgery on her shoulder. Well, technically she's getting a NEW shoulder since she's having a "reverse shoulder replacement". Apparently the muscles in front have basically disintegrated and she needs to switch the ball and socket to have any range of motion. She's been in a ton of pain lately, but hopefully that will change after this is done.

Surgery is at 7am tomorrow morning, and I'm taking her in at 4:30am. It's only supposed to take a few hours, but I don't know for sure how long it will actually be. I'm worried about complications during and after surgery, worried that it won't help her movement or her pain, etc.

After surgery is done, she'll be staying in the hospital for at least two days while they check on her and get medications adjusted, and then she'll be coming home with her arm in a sling for at least three weeks. Considering that she always tries to do everything herself, this is going to be interesting.

I'm taking my laptop to the hospital with me and may post an update when she's out of surgery. Some of you might be able to catch me on, and I'd welcome a chance to talk with someone for a while. I'd also welcome any nice thoughts or prayers or anything like that, and hopefully I'll have some good news soon.

health, mother
