Simplicity 2172

For Dragon*Con this year I made the ever so popular Simplicity 2172 outfit. The wine color of the dress on the package happens to be my favorite color to wear so my first dress off this pattern (because I plan on making more one day) looks very, very similar to it.

I had to add 2 inches to the dress length, I did do the pleats and while it took a couple of days to do them they were so worth it. I lucked out in finding my old petticoat, but I think the next time I make this I'm going to make a bustle to go with the petticoat. The sleeves ended up being completely altered. I wanted them a bit poofy, since that's a bit more Victorian, and then when I tried them on I realized that I didn't add enough length to them. So I made them short sleeved. I think I'm going to make some long sleeves that I can attach to the existing sleeves with chain or something. I ended up wearing a crochet choker I'd made ages ago and added a key to it, a nice find in my craft box. I don't even remember buying that key. I also made some fingerless gloves to go with the whole ensemble.

I really wish I'd taken pictures at the con of all the other ladies sporting dresses from the same pattern. I was thinking it would be strange, but in every case we'd always complement the other's dress. It was almost like a secret joke.
