The Adventure of Creating a Steampunk Work Coat from a Priest's Cassock Pattern

Hi all!  This is the latest "how-I-did-it" costuming post from the Steam Wench's salon.  This one is on how I decided to make a steampunk labcoat, used a priest's cassock man's pattern (despite, again, no pattern experience except for the previously-posted bloomers), and with much adventure ended up with a durable steampunk worker's coat (though pocketless!):
