Hi! I've been reading for a while, and just got around to getting some pics to post yesterday. This is a steampunk dress I made for my National Honor Society induction. That ended up getting cancelled because of massive amounts of snow in Denver, but I was still able to wear it to my Forensics banquet last night.
I made it out of cream stretch lace that I got in a bag of fabrics at Saver's, lined with a rust-colored slinky I bought for $2.00 a yard at Wal-Mart. The pattern was New Look 6457, a good all-around pattern that I've made a couple of other dresses from, and I ganked the sleeves from New Look 6750, which is a mediocre dress but had some really lovely puffy Victorian-style sleeves.
Here's a front view (in which I look oddly chubby, but oh, well!):
Here is a side view of the dress, so you can really see the fullness of the skirt:
I didn't have time to properly finish the underskirt yesterday, as you can see, but I think it turned out quite nicely otherwise. This is my first truly steampunk-Victorian dress, and I'm excited to make more like it!
