Library of Congress recognises Steampunk

Steamy book-geeks may realise that the L of C, who create the standard subject headings used in most library catalogues in English speaking countries, are generally very slow to update their terminology. (They only got rid of their references to 'videos' on various topics, meaning film recordings, a few weeks ago.) So I was jolly chuffed to see that some resident geek over there has ratified 'Steampunk fiction' as an acceptable index heading for books, and even created a couple of classification numbers to file criticism and collections.

Steampunk fiction

PN3448.S73 (History and criticism)
PN6120.95.S69 (Collections)
Broader Term: Fantasy fiction
Broader Term: Science fiction
It will take a while before it filters through libraries, but it's on its way. I'll certainly be adding it to the appropriate books in my library, such as Scott Westerfeld's Leviathan!
