Steampunk student needs help

Right, here at my university there's a tradition that some students wear overalls at certain occasions. Mostly those kinds of occasions that tend to be rather alcohol-fueled. These overalls are themselves subject to many traditions and one of them is the decoration of said overalls. Most common is to add pins and patches from different faculties or events but also adding important details like bottle openers, bar towels and suchlike.
I have recently procured one of these and so I need to personalize it, preferably in a steam-punk fashion. Since it's made of burgundy-coloured waterproof fabric and is covered with advertising printed on it from the sponsors of the student organization I got it from it will be very hard to turn it into an 19th century airshipman's working gear, instead I'm going for the post-apoc, Freakangel-style look. Right now I've only made some minor alterations (see pictures in link).

The small patches are 1: A patch from the institute of molecular biotechnology 2: Finnish army insignia 3: a pin from the Swedish National Guard 4: A "Don't touch my buddy"-pin. These were part of a huge anti-racism campaign in Sweden in the 80's and are now considered somewhat of a cult item. Everybody has them. 5: Medic badge of the Swedish National Guard.
So, does anyone have any suggestions on how to make this look a bit more steamish? I'm thinking of adding an aiguillette made of ring-pulls (only from cans drunk by myself, another tradition) on a chain on one shoulder, a belt-pouch and a bar-towel attached with carabiners. A bottle/wine opener will of course be attached to a key chain.

So, what do you think?
