for me

this doesn't sound like anything i've ever written. here's my memory:

William Apess writes a fairly extensive recollection of his upbringing in A Son of the Forest, though his voice gave me some trouble of finding. He often tells of the struggles that are littered through his childhood, from his grandparents [almost] (and forgive my liberty of the English language) detestmeant of his existence through his constant runaways and even his service with the American Army before and after the War of 1812. Yet after each venture into “sin”, as he would find himself being lead into, a renewed faith would take over surprisingly more intense than all the previous. With that said, it is hard to get a grasp on his life, despite his vivid recounts. His complexities of change within his personality would be caused, as he would state, by his continuous encounters with faith/religion/God. This consistency being the exact turning point to and from his path to Heaven or Hell, whether he is falling back into the graces of God through His protection over him during the War of 1812, or journeying away from that divine relationship because of persecution, God is as important to him as He is his continuous obstacle.
