They were going to be late. Again. Lester glanced across at Connor and caught the younger man chewing his lip. He ran through a mental check-list. Emails checked. Yes. Dishwasher loaded and switched on? Yes. Sid and Nancy fed and confined to kitchen. Yes. Doors locked? Yes.

Oh no.

“Connor,” he said, “You did shut Sid and Nancy into the kitchen didn’t you?”

Connor produced a noise that managed to encompass yes/no/not sure/please don’t hurt me into one pleading syllable.

Bugger. Lester only just remembered to indicate before he swung the car around. Lateness be damned they were going home.
