Matt justified the tree because it was real and would live happily in its pot all year round. Also trees were good for the environment, cleaning the air and providing oxygen. Gideon would approve. Festive delicacies were also purchased without guilt. Everyone must eat and it was right to treat his friends to something special. Besides it was wicked to waste food. The decorations were made from recycled materials. That just left lights. Matt longed for strings of coloured bulbs and flashing neon. But there was no excusing such excesses. One candle should be enough. Defiantly he lit a dozen.
