“Fine,” said Jess and turned to her computer. She did not look up as Becker left.
That was ten days ago. At first Becker had been indignant. He was totally right and Jess was being completely unreasonable. This had lasted three days. OK. Maybe she had a point. Since then he had tried chocolates, flowers, cards, and email links to cute puppies and kittens. The chocolates had been shared out. The flowers were now on Emily’s desk. The cards were returned unopened and the messages went unread.
Becker conceded defeat.
“Sorry,” he said.
Jess smiled. And the sun came out.
