They were all dead.
All except Stephen. The actual events and the reasoning remained a merciful blank but Oliver had filled him in. Oliver had tried to minimise the horror, but there was not much evasion possible about Stephen freeing the Future Predators and the resulting carnage.
Stephen had wanted to go to the police, to confess and be punished as harshly as the law would allow. Oliver wouldn’t let him. Stephen must stay here and continue the project. Cutter would want that. Stephen mustn’t torture himself. Oliver would look after him. He could trust Oliver. Oliver was his friend.
