“Oh!” Jess looked around in wonder.
“Like it?” asked Becker trying, and failing, not to sound smug.
“Fantastic,” she replied. “You win everything.”
The night flowed softly around them in a blur of colour, scents and sounds. Becker resolutely refused to consider the cost of this grand gesture. It was worth every euro to see Jess’s face lit with such happiness.
“You said you fancied Italian for dinner. So Pisa it is.”
She laughed and twirled in a sudden giddy excess. “I said pizza.”
Becker grinned down at her. “You can have that. And pasta too if you want it.”
