Artemis walked into the room, sat with his chin in his hands, and wondered what exactly it was Minako thought she was doing. After a moment or two, he spoke up softly. "Mina."
Giggling, the girl reached one finger to his white mask. "Rei-chan, you look cuter in that than I do..."
Pulling back slightly, he was more than a little distressed. "Mina."
She gave an annoyed huff. "Can't you just leave us alone tonight, Artemis?"
"Mina," he repeated, as he put his hand up to her face to push it away, "I'm not Rei."
"Eh?" Blinking awake, Minako jumped at the sight of the silvery-blonde man leaning in so close to her, once again slamming her head quite audibly into the top bunk.
Cringing, Artemis tried not to laugh. "You need to get up, Rei was looking for you earlier."
"Earlier?" Minako rubbed the back of her head, squinting at the numbers on her clock. "It's not even . . ."
"PM, Mina." He sighed, holding up the clock to her face. "You took a nap after I woke you up the first time."
"Oh." Less annoying voice, nice hair, the tux makes him kind of... No, ew. "Oh." Minako hopped past him out of bed, looking around for everything she needed to get ready, but suddenly realized there wasn't anything she actually needed to grab up. At that, she turned around to Artemis while he was still pulling himself upright. "Wait, what's with the ears?"
They twitched at the mention, Artemis leaning on to one leg with a white tail swishing behind him. "Well, maybe it's not the most original idea, but I'm pretty sure I'll be the only catboy at this dance."
"I guess you're..." Minako scratched the side of her hair, combing some of the tangles out with her fingers. "They're kind of, um..." Her blonde head shook into focus, and neither wanted to say Artemis was "right" nor "cute." Abruptly, she bolted out the door. "Never mind!"
"He-hey, kind of what?" Artemis leaned out of the door, calling after her. "You forgot your costume!"
"Don't need it!" The girl waved back, keeping silent about how unhappy she was with the actual costume she'd given up on fixing. It would simply be much easier for her to transform into a likeness of Sailor Mars.
Rei, Rei, Rei... Minako stopped just inside the oversized doors of the gym entrance, trying to catch a glimpse of wherever her partner had wound up in the gathering crowd of students. Either I'm not that late, or they were waiting for me, or... Her mouth slanted at the fact no one seemed to be doing much of anything yet. Either way, this is looking like a drag. Doesn't matter, we'll fix this in no time... There you are!
Red heels rushed Minako through a group of girls chatting near one of the food tables, her arm hooking into the one she'd been looking for. "Sorry to tear you away from your fans, Sailor V, but we have a duty to protect this school from the never ending threat of boredom and lack of romantic engagement!" Once they were further away, she tugged the other girl a little closer with a whisper. "And, sorry I missed the last of the set up, Rei-chan." A flirtatious wink came with her apology. "I'll make it up to you later."
"Eh?" The confused girl stumbled back in her costume, blushing slightly. "I'm, not..."
"Oh, of course you're not," Minako marched on to the small podium on one end of the gym with a microphone, blending her sentences together as she raised her voice, "Sailor V and Sailor Mars would like to personally welcome you all to this year's St. Catherine's soon-to-be Annual Prom Dance."
After a short pause, an elbow went into the fake Sailor V's side, but the only response was an awkward smile. Minako cleared her throat, tugging down the back of her red skirt. I guess it doesn't matter which of us says which, but Rei wouldn't forget hers... Unless I went out of order?
Deciding not to flounder in front of the audience, Minako did one final, one-handed rearrangement of her costume before speaking up. "But before we start the music and dim the lights, we'd like to point out that you will all be given the chance of voting for this year's Prom Queen. Just take one of the ballots," her finger literally pointed across the gym to one of the tables, "write the name of anyone attending our dance, and drop it into the box. Unfortunately, for the sake of fairness, Paige, er, our Headmistress has insisted that your hostesses not be eligible, so I hope that doesn't leave any of our fan base disappointed." She cleared her throat again, glancing to the girl she accosted and that didn't seem to plan on speaking up any time soon. "You'll also notice, there's a second name to fill out! Because, at the end of the night, we'll be announcing both the Prom Queen, and the person who you have all decided has the best costume. Funny, cute, well-made, it doesn't matter why, it's your choice."
"Now!" Minako pointed a white gloved hand into the air. "As it is our duty to keep tonight safe and entertaining, we're just as eager to get to dancing and mingling as the rest of you. P, Ms. Matthews, however, would like us to say that she will be here with you, whether you can tell or not, so any unscrupulous use of alcohol -- or potions -- will not go unnoticed. Just a warning, and with the boring stuff over, let's get started."
At the end of her brief announcement, the girl dressed as Sailor Mars stepped down, turning to her supposed partner with a look of minor confusion. After a moment, she gave a weak smile, whispering as she turned off the microphone. "Getting me back for making you do all the work earlier?"
Smiling, the girl who wasn't Rei didn't quite know how to explain. "No, not really..?"
(OOC: Eh, Minako was always going to be late anyway... >.> Consider this after most people are there. I'll tack up a separate post to explain the voting bit. ^^; Arrive, mingle, whatever, comments can pop in at whatever point you like anywhere in the dance, naturally.)
