I have the Team Vox blog to thank for this. I'm seriously kicking around the idea of going full-bore, hosted service, most likely through Six Apart (hey Vox, can I get royalties for this post?) I can afford the service, that's not the problem. The question that keeps popping up in my mind is:
What would I write about? All other questions lead to/from and inform that central core, "what's my actual value proposition" question.
Comedy? Something funny?
There are a lot of funny sites out there already.
Something businesslike?
Such as? The subset of businesslike people interested in what I have to say has gotta be pretty small.
Something else? Having to do with x aspect of my life?
A possibility. Which aspect? Is it covered somewhere else?
Something newsworthy? Having to do with current events?
But can I keep it current?
When I switch over, I would think that the intent is to have a sustained readership, and that means a sustained topic, and a sustained effort (besides, I have my Vox for my world-at-large ramblings.) Whatever I do, can I come up with something meaningful to say about it X times a week? Forget making money, most blogs don't. Would it ever at least break even?
And it all leads back to: what exactly do I have to say?
