Logic, according to Vulcans.

Warning: This is not the logic you're used to.
Let me explain.
Logic as you know it is the thing you (usually, or I hope so) use when arguing and reasoning on some subject or other. Its use is widespread in sciences. No wonder why they are so in on Vulcan, as Vulcans claim to be such logical beings; it helps them so much.
Here's an example of what you can do with logic.
You may (or may not) know that Bono of U2 is notable for giving lessons to people about helping the poor children in Africa or something (well, he's not that off on this point, but for now it's irrelevant).
You may know that people who randomly give lessons to others are quite annoying to most.
Well, logic is there to help you make the last step, deducing that... Bono is annoying! Which is not new, you may say.
This is logic.

Now, Vulcans have a different view on logic. Sometimes called 'Vulcan logic', or 'You wouldn't understand, you're not a Vulcan' (Ha. I'm a tall ship.).
Let me give you an example.
Let's suppose, for the sake of argument, that you're an average Vulcan male. You get a job on Earth (when you're an ambassador, you usually get sent out on strange places like this). Once there, you meet a girl, you start getting to know her a bit... you get my drift. You eventually marry (OK you're being quite original here, marrying outside your species). You even go to the next step... making a half-mini-you half-mini-your wife. Like everybody does in the multiverse. Well, your parents did, didn't they? Except nobody before you two ever attempted that stunt, mixing different species.
Let's fast-forward nine months later. The sprog is born, he has little cute elf-like ears and everything, as a good little Vulcan; he's indeed yours (not that you had a doubt but whatever). But... he's also like his mother. Who's human. What do you do now?
A) Well, you married a human. You got what you asked for.
B) WHAT? He's half-human? You demand an explanation for this fuckery, and take it on the brat until he's an adult, and beyond. That'll teach him not to be and act fully Vulcan like you, from birth, thank you very much. After all, you just wanted to clone yourself, as your ancestors did before you (after all you're their clone), that's why you married outside your species.
You choose answer B, of course, as a good logical Vulcan.
This, dear reader, is Vulcan logic.

As a tall ship, I indeed don't understand.

OK, for the two of you who didn't understand a thing of what I said, I'll tell you the truth. A character in Star Trek really pulled that stunt: Spock's father. I kid you not. And his mother didn't do as much as lift a finger after that. She could have, I don't know, divorced when he disowned his son for not making the studies he wanted him to make. I mean, humans who do that are often poorly judged, and that's from 'illogical' beings! But Vulcans can get away with it, because, well, they're Vulcans, so whatever they do is logical, even when it's not. Well there's a certain logic, a twisted part of yourself may say. Everybody in the family did the same, Spock was in the family, so he was supposed to do the same. (Well, here comes regular logic.) Except not. So Big Daddy kicked Spock out of the family, so that logic could work again (again, regular logic here).
Like I said, twisted part of your brain. Logic, regular logic, is not enough. You have to look carefully at what you start with, or you're in the scenery pretty fast, and pretty dead. Everybody in the family does/did the same? Even in prehistory? And what do they do in MUMMY's family? Do they look highly at people who meddle into their adult children's life? Or do they only gape at their spouses' many mistakes without saying a word? (OK I don't know them).
And there's also a pattern. Big Daddy has another son, whom he had with a Vulcan (good boy), and he also disowned him for displaying emotions (on Vulcan, it's even worse than farting on purpose in front of the Queen of England). From this we can only tell a thing: Big Daddy, and maybe a whole lot of his conspecifics, as I heard, is bad with children, especially his own. Which is not good for the species' future. And highly illogical.
Or whatever.

vulcans, logic, wtf
