it's all a passing phenomenon, Charlie. but, when that guy says, it's not a passing trend, it's their life, that's absolutely true too. i have never lived in a tough neighborhood. somehow i feel this invalidates my experiences

World famous? The American Legion lobster bake I would more likely consider to be world famous. This primarily because of the giant paper ma-che lobster that was planted in the empty lot that is now Kum & Go circa 1985...and the remains finally removed circa 1987. My dates might be a little off, but trying to keep track of every tiny event over the past 28 years can be a little difficult. Anyway here is a list of what has made Polk City world renoun

do you imply, sir, that the POLK CITY FIRE DEPT. would lie? or mislead?
sir! no!
seriously, i don't remember the lobster! i wish i did, now. since i read your text, i have this imaginary memory, now, but, yeah, imaginary. i love hearing these stories, because i have such a terrible memory. i like to reconstuct my history from stories i hear about where i must have been.
Well it's good to know you enjoy the stories. I'd hate to think I was telling all this "good ol' day" stuff and be boring people, but sometimes I just can't help myself.
It is best that you don't remember a visual account of Louis the Lobster. Damion looked prettier after his execution (molton lead on limbs, hung, drawn, hacked, and quartered by horses) for attempting to assasinate King Louis XV than Louis after they finally hauled his deformed body out of the lot. However I would hope you remember the elementry school before it was taken over by the Borg or even the Dairy Queen before it got taken over by an evil junk car monster.
Have you ever seen that movie Elf? Not such a great movie, but I keep thinking of that scene with the world's best cup of coffee.
as far as hog roasts go, I can only remember going to the one they have where they bury stuff in that pit by the park on the square on kwanis (sp?) day. I do vividly remember going to a street dance at the firehouse once. There was a band playing bob segar. I don't remember there ever being any hog roasts there. I've never been to the lobster roast, I just remember that my mom and sister went one year and my mom was complaining about some sort of sanitation violation. Luckily, she hasn't quite managed to infect me with the same degree of concern about such things. I trust my immune system. where am I going with all of this? I can't remember.
i really giggled a lot at Elf, i expected, even wanted to hate it a bit, but i really mostly just giggled, even though my parents were insulted by it. this is usually the opposite situation my parents and me find ourselves in.
i like my immune system, and trust it a great deal more than i used to. it's served me well enough. but i do worry about the avian flu. or some weird space virus.
