I'm not sure about checking multiple genres. Most festivals have the films judged in their own category, so i'm not sure how they would handle that if you checked more than one genre. I'm pretty sure they want you to narrow it down to one.
it said "check all that apply". i am only following directions. and i don't know anything about festivals. i am hoping this will work in my favor, one of these days, if i start small enough.
i think "documentary, experimental" is a pretty accurate categorization of 'all american food'; not that it isn't funny and dramatic, but for the purposes of this form, comedy/drama seems to imply something of the screenwritten genre variety. also, i'm not sure what type of film festival it is, so tacking on the "experimental" badge could help the judges be more receptive to the so-called "uneven production values" (sucks that some people still see video work that way; it reminds me of people that hear 'lo-fi' music and dismiss it out of hand like the musician didn't even care enough about us to make an ostensibly universally inviting sound! how dare they!) however, i'm unaware of specific film festival politics, so maybe broad-appeal is what they aim for and this is all plain bad advice. either way, good luck, and i don't personally mind having my image seen by strangers: it's myself seeing myself that gives me problems. btw, i'm compelled to force a song i heard on everyone i know because i'm so fucking in love with it. are you
( ... )
on Sunday? quite possibly; i'll make an effort to be, at any rate.
as for the fest's politics and ambitions, i haven't a clue; i just saw that it was local-ish, happening soon. i looked at some snapshots of their audience and their movies; the movies looked like they might be more random than i'd expect a little Iowa fest to be; the audience looked.. well, diverse, stoner-y kids and old respectable types. so who knows?
you're probably right about the comedy/drama thing. i marked 'em anyway. my thinking was.. like, i'm hoping they'd see it as at least a little bit funny and sad. but that's up to them. whoever they are. i want it to be approachable. comedy/drama implies that? maybe?
fuckit... they'll say it sucks and i'll start looking for the next one, i suppose. at least this one specified that if you don't know by, like, July, they don't want it. that was nice.
also, glad you don't mind strangers maybe someday seeing you, (though i imagine it will never happen) but i'd still feel better if you saw this new thing and okayed it anyway. probably, it'd be best watched with me not there. that way, you could fastforward through bits if you wanted, and i wouldn't be obsessing over every little reaction or non-reaction of piss-break. but i'd still feel better with tacit approval. (wanna get Linc to watch the thing, too, but, that might not ever happen. other people who should see it never will, so, i'll settle for what i can.)
(obviously, if it ain't approvable, well, then saying so would be good. but all this is absurdly academic..)
I would love to see it, we gotta hang out sometime, as soon as I get a day off work and the physical terrorist lets me out of the training camp and I can get away from this damn blue bag of ice that is simultaneously kinder and crueler to me than the opposite sex. Strange days.....
Have I mentioned psychological trauma? May need more surgery, the problem isn't fixed. Told that goddamn doctor I tore the synovial sheath two fucking years ago, but no....MIDCARPAL INSTABILITY!!!!!!
Nonetheless, give me a call, I'm bad about actually picking up a phone to use it myself. That takes initiative and besides I really hate those things.

And I'm sure the video is fantastic, I was there when it was concieved(I think), if I recall there was all sorts of wonderful schizophrenic mayhem.....damn I'm really curious to see how much of it you documented.
